On Saturday June 15, tragedy struck our family. Our 4 year old son, Liam, was severely burned while we were burning cardboard boxes and papers. Though Liam was standing a safe distance away, unbeknownst to us, some form of aerosol container had made its way into one of the boxes that was burning. Unfortunately it combusted directly in Liam’s direction.
he was quickly taken to the nearest hospital and then transferred to the pediatric trauma burn ICU at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh where we learned that 20% of his little body has 2nd degree burns. This includes burns to his face, both arms and both legs. He is now on day 4 of this hospital stay and we anticipate a much longer stay, as he needs sedation to go through hydrotherapy and other treatments that require hospitalization and monitoring.
We are fortunate that it was not worse, however, with Liams primary residence being with dad in South Carolina, his medical expenses are mostly uncovered due to us being out of network in PA.
Anyone who knows Liam can tell you that he is sunshine personified. And though he has tried his best to maintain that high spirit, his recovery will be extensive, painful, and lengthy.
we are asking for donations in hopes that we can continue to focus on Liam’s recovery and lessen the stress that comes with monetary strain.
Your contribution will go towards medical bills, funding trips between home and hospital, accommodation, medications, rehabilitation with allied therapies, and any other bills directly related to the ongoing care and recovery of Liam and the family. I recognize that the goal amount is a large number, and again would like to explain that this is based on Liam’s out of network medical expenses accompanied by the fact that his dad (Glenn Gann Jr) and I co parent between South Carolina and Pennsylvania so this has affected and will continue to affect both family units as it pertains to time taken from work, travel back and forth from SC to PA to ensure both parents are able to be intimately involved in his recovery etc. All donations will go to Liam and helping both parents in the journey to healing.
We greatly appreciate your generosity during this very difficult time.
