Hi my name is Liam. I am 7 years old and awaiting my 5th open heart surgery. I love to play at any park, ride my bike, watch Disney movies, play with my number blocks, and play with my 2 brothers and baby sister.
I was born with heterotaxy, dextrocardia, complete AV defect unbalanced to the right, double outlet right ventricle, total anamolous pulmonary vein return, and asplenia. All of that means that my organs are switched around, my heart sits on the right side of my chest and points the opposite direction, I only have 2 heart chambers instead of 4, my veins and arteries come out right side of my heart instead of 2 different sides, my main vein from the lower half of my body returned (had surgery at 4 days old to correct) to the main veins returning to my heart from my head instead of my heart, and that I was born without a spleen making my immune system weak.
I have had 4 open heart surgeries, multiple heart catheterizations, 2 MRIs, 100s if not 1000s of xrays and blood draws, a handful of hospital stays due to illness, and 4 times requiring CPR. After the multiple times requiring CPR and surgeries i developed Absent Seizures and Tonic Clonic seizures requiring medication and 1 trip to the ER last year. I have also been diagnosed with Asthma. The next open heart surgery I was to have I an not eligible for. I am currently waiting to see if they can make my heart 3 or 4 chambers. If they can I will either be going to West Virginia University Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, or Boston Children's Hospital depending on which surgeons are comfortable with doing the surgery. There is also a possibility I may not be able to have it done at all due to the complexity of my heart. At that point we may be traveling as anywhere in the US they might be able to help me.
My family and I are asking for donations, prayers, and/or good vibes as we prepare for this journey and currently waiting for the call saying they have completed the 3D reconstruction and have made a decision on if I can have this surgery or need to talk about transplant. Please help in anyway you can!
