Support Liam Lund’s treatment
Leongatha’s Greg and Viv Lund have been given the news no parent ever wants to hear. Your child is very very sick but we don’t know what’s wrong with him.
Liam was rushed to Warragul hospital and was transferred by ambulance to Monash Children’s Hospital at 3 o’clock in the morning when the severity of his condition was realised. The past 5 weeks have been a nightmare for this beautiful family and 7 year old Liam has been through many painful procedures to try and discover what’s making him so sick. He has had bone marrow biopsies, numerous blood transfusions as well as platelet transfusions just to keep him alive. His immune system is dangerously low and his blood won’t clot, making the risk of internal bleeding another thing this poor family have to contend with.
Viv has had to stop work and put her gardening and lawn mowing business on hold so she can be with Liam through all these procedures and tests. Greg also has had to reduce his work hours to look after Liam’s brother’s Brodie and Tyson. Greg has had to juggle work, school drop offs and pick ups as well as many trips to and from the hospital to do pick ups drop offs or even just to visit Liam during his extended stays. This has all been a horrible, distressing time and a huge financial and mental strain on this beautiful family.
Liam has now been diagnosed with Aplastic Anaemia It is a rare and very serious condition with only 1-2 people per million contracting it. It stops the bone marrow from doing its job and if left untreated the patient won’t survive. Although it’s a minor relief to know now what they are fighting. Liam’s journey to recovery has just begun and it’s definitely not a easy one. He will have a Hickman line inserted into his chest so the doctors can administer the drugs that will hopefully give Liam the chance to be a happy healthy child again who can play with his brothers, friends and return to school.
It’s going to be a long road to recovery for this brave little boy. Greg and Viv have been told to prepare for a total disruption to their normal lives for at least two years Liam and Viv will be away from home months at a time while Liam is receiving drug therapy Greg and Viv have always given freely of their time and energy to raise money for many different causes. Relay for Life. The World’s Greatest Shave. The Mothers Day Walk. Viv even shaved her beautiful hair to raise money for the cause. So now it’s time to give back some of the support they have generously given others
