As you may know, Leyla was taken to the ER last Friday, December 5, because she wasn't urinating or feeding. By the end of the day she had been admitted to the Texas Children's Hospital and diagnosed with a "mass" in her pelvis. The team of doctors and surgeons at the hospital have been working at amazing speeds to take next steps, and Leyla had surgery today (12/10/25)! The surgery went well. They were able to get the whole tumor and do it via one incision. She is currently in PICU recovering and still has long way ahead of her. She will not be able nurse or take any nourishment by mouth for a week to let the area heal. They are currently giving her a central line to administer meds and nourishment. We are now going to wait for the pathology report regarding malignancy. That should take about a week. More information can be found on Leyla's CaringBridge site.

We are very thankful that medical insurance should cover Leyla's care completely. However, both Mary and Watson are contract workers in their interpreting jobs. This means then when they aren't working, they aren't getting paid- so household income is affected by this medical crisis. Meanwhile they have big mechanical problems with their van.
