Hi! My name is Lex Speer, and this past spring I had the chance to work as a set dresser on a small film outside of Columbus OH titled "Union County" staring Will Poulter this independent drama was such an amazing project to work on. I got to meet so many extremely talented people and see first-hand the incredible work that went into such a deep and thoughtful story.

As it turns out, Union County has been accepted into the 2026 Sundance Film Festival! And I’ve been invited to attend the premiere on January 25th!

The Sundance Film Festival is the largest independent film festival in the U.S., held annually in Park City, Utah, showcasing new American and international features, documentaries, and shorts, Sundance is known for launching careers and premiering groundbreaking films like Get Out, CODA, and Reservoir Dogs.

An opportunity to attend this film festival is another excellent way to connect with industry leaders and let them know I am ready, willing and eager to work on new projects. It can allow me the chance to have face-to-face conversations to advocate for my career.

I take nearly any job that I can secure in the film industry and I search for work daily. In between projects, I work as a stagehand building the stages for concerts at Rocket Arena. The film industry is changing right now and that means that in smaller markets like Ohio, work is slow.

Fortunately, the production has already secured a ticket for me. However, the airfare, lodging, and food are not included. Hence the need to fundraise.

Working in the film industry has it's ups and downs when it comes to "enjoying the fruits of our labor" but when we get to come together to celebrate our hard work and creativity, it brings out a feeling of certainty that we are doing something that matters. Going to Sundance isn't a vacation, it's a means to motivate and connect people!

In addition to myself, a handful of other Ohio crew members are also attending the festival. This doesn't just reflect our individual dedication to the project, it showcases Ohio's dedication to the global film market.

With your support, I can let filmmakers know that not only does Ohio have the talent to tell these meaningful stories, but I am too!

This trip is not inexpensive - I am estimating that I need to raise $1500. All donations will be used solely for myself to travel, eat and lodge in Park City, Utah from January 24th, 2026 to January 27th, 2026.
