I’m a single mother preparing for hand surgery this week. I’ve already been out of work for almost two weeks, and my medical leave still hasn’t kicked in. I don’t receive government assistance, and like many working moms, I live paycheck to paycheck, so this unexpected pause in income has made it difficult to cover basic needs for me and my children.
