Hello Friends, Family and Supporters
For those who may not know me, my name is Lester Finney. I was born and raised in Belle Glade, FL where I now live and teach art at the local middle school. I'm 66 years young--but in my mind, I'm still 29...and holding strong!
During the COVID shutdown of 2020 my 14-yr old son needed a training partner for track. I was not a runner. While I did participate in field events, I never ran track in middle or high school. However, I was more than happy to step in and help my him. After nearly a year of training alongside him, his track coach asked to time me in the 100M. Based on my time, he encouraged to try out for the Senior Games. My wife signed me up on the spot. That was the beginning of this amazing journey.
For the past three years I've been competing in the Florida Senior Games with the goal of making it to the National Senior Games (NSG). At the 2024 Florida Senior Games Finals, I qualified for Nationals in both the 200M and the Long Jump in the 65-69 age group.
The 2025 National Senior Games will be held in Des Moines, IA July 28-August 4, 2025. I'm reaching out to ask for your support in helping me get there. I'm seeking assistance or sponsorship to help cover travel, lodging and related expenses for myself, my wife and our son--who have both been essential to this journey. I truly can't imagine doing this without them by my side.
After Nationals, I plan to produce a video and photo book to document this incredible experience to share it with my students, young people and those who are young at heart in my community. I want to inspire and motivate them to chase their dreams and to show them that with determination and effort, anything is possible.
Thank you in advance for encouragement and support!
With gratitude,
Lester Finney
