Support Leslie's Journey Through Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Lisa Apple, and I'm fundraising for someone very dear to so many of us-Leslie. Many of you know Leslie as the smiling face that greets everyone at Van R. Butler Elementary School. She's a devoted wife, loving mother, and a true friend whose kindness and warmth touch everyone she meets.

Recently, Leslie received the devastating news that she has breast cancer. She has already undergone a double mastectomy and now faces a long road ahead, including chemotherapy, radiation, and future reconstructive surgery at MD Anderson in Houston.

Today, Leslie went wig shopping in preparation of the side effects of her upcoming chemotherapy treatments. Her hope is to continue to work while undergoing treatment, and wishes to remain the same image as she has all of these years to the children and families. Through tears, she was able to look in the mirror and see a version of herself that felt familiar-something so important to her, especially for her children, and the children of VRB's sake.

This journey comes with significant cost beyond what insurance covers. From medical bills to the cost of a quality wig and travel expenses for specialized treatment, the financial burden is quickly piling up.
