If you have ever walked into Les Vagabonds on First Avenue and felt like you had been transported somewhere else entirely, you know exactly why we are fighting to keep this place alive.
Les Vagabonds is not a chain. It is not a concept. It is a labor of love built from scratch by two people who believed New York City needed a place that felt genuinely, unapologetically French. Not pretentious. Not trendy. Just real — crimson walls, soft candlelight, jazz guitar on Friday nights, and a warmth that makes people want to linger.
Sutton Place found its neighborhood bistro. And now we need your help to keep it.
With 123 Google reviews and a 4.7-star rating, guests come back again and again. A book club from Sutton Place Social Magazine chose us as their home. A local theater company recently named us their official dining partner, giving audiences a place to continue the magic long after the curtain falls.
Live jazz. Rotating specials that showcase the creativity of a real chef. A welcoming room that feels alive. The kind of place where memories are made and regulars become friends.
Like so many small restaurants in New York, Les Vagabonds was hit hard during a slow season. Revenue dropped significantly for several months, and in order to keep the doors open, high-interest short-term loans were taken out. Those loans, combined with accumulated back rent, have brought the business to a pivotal moment.
The food has not suffered. The hospitality has not suffered. The vision has not suffered. But like many beloved small businesses, Les Vagabonds needs some breathing room and the support of the community that has embraced it.
Every dollar will go directly toward stabilizing the business — catching up on rent, paying essential expenses, and providing the runway needed to build on the momentum that is already underway. The theater partnership is live. The jazz nights are bringing in new guests. And the community that has made this place special continues to grow.
We are not asking for a handout. We are asking for a bridge — from where we are today to where this place is capable of going.
Because a 4.7-star rating with 123 reviews does not happen by accident. Because guests write things like, “New best thing on First Avenue,” and “I can’t wait to come back.” Because this is the kind of neighborhood restaurant New York keeps losing — and always wishes it had protected.
Help us make sure Les Vagabonds is not one of them.
Goal: $50,000
Every contribution — whether it is $10, $50, or $500 — helps preserve a place that has brought joy, music, friendship, and a little bit of Paris to Manhattan.
