Dear Friends,

On or around November 30, 2024, a devastating and unthinkable tragedy struck my dear friends, Leroy and Vernelia Childs. While staying in a rented room at a friend’s home, the house suddenly exploded without warning. The roof collapsed onto Vernelia, causing severe injuries to her skull and brain. She has since undergone multiple surgeries and continues to fight for her recovery.

Leroy also sustained multiple injuries and is currently battling life-altering mental and emotional trauma. Among other conditions, he is being treated for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sleep apnea, and ongoing psychological trauma caused by the explosion.

As a result of this tragedy, Leroy and Vernelia are now homeless. The Red Cross provided a one-time emergency relief payment of $650 in December 2024, but that money has long since been exhausted: used for immediate needs like food, clothing, and temporary shelter.
