Hi—I’m Jenny and my nephew Leo (“Peanut”) was in a motorcycle accident this past week. He’s the sweetest, kindest young man—hard -working and amazing with his own nieces and nephews…Here is the story, in my Sister's (his mom’s) own words:
This is my son, Leo, he is 23 years old and was in a motorcycle accident on Thursday April 23rd at 1125am on I-35 in DFW. He was transported to JPS Hospital, was intubated and luckily only broke his nose and left cheek but has really bad road rash all over his body, considerably worse on his arms and shoulders, and was placed in ICU, he was taken off the breathing tube the following day and has been breathing on his own. His MRI and CT scans showed swelling of the brain and bleeding in the front part of the brain and a couple of tears, but thankfully not severe enough to need surgery, the bleeding is also not active, he had a severe concussion, TBI and DAI and had been unresponsive until yesterday. He has very tiny moments of being awake now but memory is still very much lagging. He did finally eat and had the longest period of being awake which was about 30 minutes and then was exhausted and slept the majority of the day. He was moved today off that floor to a trauma floor. Although he is making very slow progress it is still progress and we will take that any day! Anyone who knows my son knows that he is very active in his physical fitness and loves working out, powerlifting and has shown a lot of interest in bodybuilding. Seeing him struggle to move at this point is extremely frustrating to him and all of us…..he will regain his strength with time, patience and prayers. We do not know much more at this point as it is still early but he will definitely need physical therapy afterwards. I ask everyone to please keep my son and all of his sisters in your thoughts and prayers. God is good.
Jenny Again—I am starting with a conservative amount…this amount will cover some missed wages and the gas, lodging, and meals for the traveling to be at his side. His hospital bills and how much insurance will cover are unknown at this time—but to at least provide some relief for my sister’s family as they keep vigil over Peanut.
