My brother Leonard is 53 years old, a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and he’s been battling cancer with incredible courage and optimism. Leonard has always been the person willing to help others. Leonard and his wife Susan have been together for 37 years and grew up as high school sweethearts. The two of them have dedicated their lives to raising their three grandchildren – Royal (12), Royce (10), and Journey (7).

For the past 20 years, Leonard has worked tirelessly in manufacturing as the sole financial provider for his family. He has always been known as a hard worker and good provider, dedicated to ensuring his family have everything they need. One night in April Leonard went to the ER with severe stomach pain. After several uncomfortable tests and biopsies, Leonard’s life changed forever. Leonard was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer on May 8, 2024. I remember seeing his face after receiving the news and I could see the fear and disbelief on his face. I remember Susan saying to Leonard “don’t worry baby, we’re going to get through this, you’re strong and you have incredible faith.” After the initial shock of the diagnosis and countless tears, Leonard and Susan, inspired through their strong faith, made the decision to fight the cancer. The long road of chemotherapy and radiation started immediately. Unfortunately, during his battle with cancer, Leonard lost his job and medical insurance, adding to the emotional and financial strain.

Now, Leonard is facing a major surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota this spring to continue his journey and fight against cancer. While he remains positive and determined, the reality of his medical expenses, and recovery time, is weighing heavily on him and his family. The financial burden is mounting, and we want to make sure that he can focus on healing without the added stress of how they’ll make ends meet.
