SUPPORT the VICTIMS of David Seyler Mega Saver HATE CRIME SHOOTING
October 20th, 2026, 11:30pm, Makiya Mitchell’s father L. Mitchell, 48, and 23-year-old brother A. Mitchell were victims of a terroristic-hate crime that resulted in both of the bring shoot at the Mega Saver a Gas Station, 1910 N 144th St, Omaha, NE 68154
They were both critically injured, but are in good spirits, laughing to keep from crying. As a community everyone is trying to keep the them entertained with jokes to not focus on the pain; though this is far from a joking matter.
The suspect David Seyler has a a violent past as we know now. He was angry and appeared to be under the influence of drugs; he took whatever he was going through out on a father and brother, the Mitchell Men. He pulled out a gun, asked if they wanted to die, and opened fire. Makiya Mitchell’s brother was shot in the liver, and father was shot in the spinal cord trying to protect each other from Seyler’s intent to in-alive them. That night Makiya brother and father shielded others who witnessed the outrage from gun fire. Neither of the Mitchell Men threatened David Seyler, and neither of them were the aggressors. In a single moment, this senseless act left both of them with life-threatening injuries and long lasting medical challenges.
L. Mitchell remains in the hospital after spinal cord injury and 90% change of paralysis with no release date. Makiya’s father being the sole provider is now unable to work while he recovers. Her brother, A. Mitchell has a long road ahead of him as he still has a bullet lodged in his liver. Doctors say it can cause more harm to remove. This fundraiser will help the Family ensure the Mitchell Men can get the care, necessary medical, help with hospital bills, and the everyday expenses they now will have to endure as a family to carry both a father and son through this devastating time.
Because L. Mitchell’s hospitalization, recovery, and loss of income are ongoing, predictable support can help the family keep up with continuing medical costs and daily needs while Makiya the daughter and sister focuses on being there for them. In addition to recovery the Mitchell Men have the stress and worry of making sure justice prevails. The Mitchell family needs proper representation to speak on their behalf.
Recurring donations are deeply appreciated, and one-time gifts will also make a real difference. Please support the Mitchell Men, Makiya’s father, and brother, in any way you can. If you are not able to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean so much. Thank you in advance on behalf of of the Mitchell Men, and Makiya Mitchell.
