Leo is a man of faith and one of the hardest workers I know. As a plumber and subcontractor on my residential construction projects, he has always shown incredible dedication and kindness. His journey to the United States was not easy—he faced homelessness when he first arrived, but through perseverance and hope, he found work in Maryland and eventually started a family. Several years ago, Leo and his daughter moved to South Carolina for new opportunities in school and work. His daughter, who had recently graduated, was beginning her career as a school teacher in Orangeburg County. She was full of promise and had a bright future ahead.
Tragically, last week, Leo's daughter was struck by a potential drunk driver in a gas station parking lot. She suffered traumatic brain injuries and was immediately flown to MUSC in Charleston for emergency surgery. Despite the doctors' best efforts and two surgeries, the swelling in her brain was too severe, and she was taken off life support on Tuesday. The person responsible for this heartbreaking act has already been released on bond, leaving Leo and his family not only to grieve but also to seek justice for their beloved daughter.
Leo is now facing overwhelming medical bills from his daughter's surgeries and care, as well as funeral expenses. He also hopes to hire an attorney to help ensure justice is served, but he does not have the funds to do so. Leo has always been there for others, and now he needs our help more than ever. We thank you for any support given and request that you pray for Leo and his family during this time of grief.
