Hey guys, this is Lisa.
Lenny Card is my main man for the past 13 years. As you can see in the pictures Lenny is a Rocker and is usually a fun, vibrant guy, but the other pictures show what he basically has been having to deal with over the past 8 months and so First off, I have to say I hate doing this, and never in my wildest dreams did I think something like this would happen to him or our family.
What started as a cancer diagnosis has dominoed its way into an ongoing nightmare, with him now losing his job over it!
We`ve always been to proud and hated asking for help, thinking we could always get by, but we never thought he`d ever lose his job either so we`re just ordinary human beings hitting a terrible snag in our lives and any money donated for this will go straight into his Savings to help cover big household expenses like the mortgage, utilities, food, etc... for the upcoming months until he`s back on his feet.
This is how he went from a hard-working Rocking man helping to take care of his family for 13 years to having to sit on a couch or rest in bed for the last 8 months with financial worries plaguing his mind, fighting just to keep his head above water.
In May 2024, Lenny was diagnosed with two hernias, but also with prostate cancer. We were devastated by the news, but with support and the help of some great doctors, by catching it early, 5 months later in October of last year, he was able to get the robotic surgery to have the prostate and the cancer removed, along with getting the hernias repaired.
BUT sadly, this is when the real nightmare began. At the time, he had no PTO, so he had to use up the rest of his vacation time for all the tests, plus the surgery. He was put on short-term disability with the hopes of getting back to work in the 4-6 weeks of recovery time, roughly around December, but things took a turn for the worse.
Soon after that surgery and while he was at home recovering, his left leg suffered from lymphedema and some type of cellulitis infection in the leg, down to his foot. After many tests, in February of this year, Lenny was diagnosed with PAD (peripheral artery disease) in his lower region because he was having very poor blood flow to his lower legs.
So in April, Lenny had another surgery to put stents in his legs. The right side got done, but they couldn't get them in his left side, so then in March, he had to get yet another surgery to have a femoral to femoral crossover bypass done to restore his blood flow to his lower left side. But when they tried to do the surgery, it was found that the mesh from that previous hernia repair (back in October of 2024) had somehow dislodged and wound up in his bladder and was eroding it away, making it impossible to put the catheter in during the surgery.
Long story short, they managed to get that taken care of temporarily so the bypass surgery could be performed, but he had to have a regular catheter in for 3 months!
Plus he just had to go through a minor surgery to have that replaced with a suprapubic one, and yet he still has the mesh in his bladder. Now he has to go through yet another surgery to fix the mesh problem, this will be his 5th in such a short amount of time, and we don't know when that's gonna happen. During this time, he ended his short-term disability and used up whatever PTO time and vacation time he had. Here's the kick in the teeth: he just lost his job over this because he has been out of work for the last 8 months, and they can no longer hold his position where he works, having used up all resources from the company.
YES, Lenny has applied for SSI/SSDI back in April through a lawyer, but that could take until October before it gets approved.
So this is why I hate to use a GoFundMe to ask for help.
He will have to go on unemployment, which won't make up what he made from work weekly to help with his share of food and other household necessities, even anything for our kids.
With everything combined for 5 people—groceries, mortgage, monthly household expenses, toiletries/bathroom needs, laundry needs, cleaning supplies, clothes, utilities, car insurance/maintenance or repairs/gas, and for our 3 kids who are special needs—with the way the economy is now, it can range up to 3k+ or more a month.
2 kids and I are on SSI, but it's just not enough, and that's where Lenny's normal weekly check would make up the difference with other bills or food, because FS is only 200 a month. Especially if the kids who have autism need anything extra—clothing, hygiene supplies, or medical needs, because one is diabetic, and if certain meds are out of stock, it comes out of pocket, or things that they may break and have to be replaced to keep them occupied.
But now that he's been out of work for so long and has just lost his job, there is no income but mine and my kids' SSI, and what they get would normally be spent on them but now has to go cover bills so it's hard and just can't cover it all.
This is why I am reaching out for help.
They say always be thankful for what you have, whether it`s your health or just having a job, because in the blink of an eye, it could all be taken away!
