Anyone who knows me knows about Lenny and how much he means to me. He has not been himself the past month and with recent decline we took him back to the vet to get reexamined. The results of his bloodwork, x-rays and ultrasound showed he has fluid building up in his abdomen and he is really sick with FIP.
“Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a serious and often fatal viral disease in cats caused by a mutation of the common feline coronavirus (FCoV). While most cats infected with FCoV experience only mild or no symptoms, in a small percentage, the virus mutates internally and triggers a severe, abnormal immune response that damages organs and blood vessels.“
This diagnosis meant Lenny had to immediately begin intense treatment in an emergency animal hospital including a feeding tube and around the clock care to help strengthen him to fight this sickness. We will also be giving him a medication that gives him a strong chance of fighting if his body accepts it. He will need weekly check ins with the vet to make sure his body is accepting the medication and not declining any further. I believe he is a fighter and will get better. Once he makes it through the months of treatment, he will be back to himself and live a long healthy life.
I am not ready to give up on my baby and will do whatever it takes for him to get better. Any help is deeply appreciated.
