Support Leni Luque's Burn Recovery Journey

If you're here, you either know Leni Luque – which is to love her – or you know someone who does. This incredible, sweet little girl had a terrible accident on Saturday, Nov. 17th, which caused severe burns to just under 15% of her body. Leni's healing journey is going to be a long one, so she and her family need support. Leni, Jennifer, Alexis, and Logan are lucky to have a wonderful village to support them, and this GoFundMe is one of the ways we are activating the village...

Leni was brought to Strong by ambulance on Saturday morning after she pulled a coffeepot down on herself. She has burns to over 10% of her body (estimate in trauma bay was about 12%; most recent burn care seems to be more extensive). Most seem to be about second degree, encompassing torso, arms, one leg, and chin. The majority are being treated with a combination of pain management and sedated burn care (cleaning and fresh dressings). There are two areas that are third degree and are looking like they will require surgery to place grafts (one less severe may be artificial, one more severe will likely be her own skin from another location).

Between the pediatric burn unit and pediatric ICU, she is receiving amazing care from a whole multidisciplinary team that specializes in the management of kids' burn injuries and could not be in better hands. They are managing her pain as best as possible, but she is a very uncomfortable, groggy kiddo right now. And yet, her sunny personality continues to push through, singing to Frozen and a very well-timed joke about being a mummy!

She will likely remain in the hospital for at least 10 days, and after that, they are looking at a combination of home care nursing, care from mom/dad/nurse Grammy, and burn clinic. We are learning that she will need a lot of support for a long time. While insurance will cover much of these expenses, we all know that it won't cover everything. The last thing we want Jen or Alexis to worry about is that Jen will have to cut her leave short due to any financial costs or gaps in what her leave policy allows, or that other aspects of their life will suffer while they focus on healing Leni and supporting Logan (and each other).
