My name is Kira, and my wife Leila was diagnosed with colon cancer in December last year. It’s been an incredibly difficult few months, but she has shown such strength. Thankfully, her operation went well, and we are so grateful for that.
However, yesterday we were told by her surgeon that she will now need to undergo six months of chemotherapy. Treatment begins in four weeks. Due to the intensity of the treatment and the side effects expected, Leila will be unable to return to work during this time.
At the same time, I had to give up my job to care for my mum, who is on palliative care, and to support my dad. I currently spend between 45–60 hours a week helping them, with a 1 hour 45 minute round trip for travel. As much as I wish I could work alongside this, it simply isn’t possible.
We never wanted to turn to crowdfunding. We have explored every option available to us — payment breaks, financial assistance, and government support — but we’ve reached a point where we have no other choice.
To make matters worse, our car clutch has just failed. With hospital appointments, chemotherapy sessions, and my responsibilities caring for my parents, having a reliable vehicle is absolutely essential. We now urgently need help to repair or replace the car, as well as cover the shortfall in our household bills during the next six months.
If you are able to donate, no matter how small the amount, it would mean more to us than we can express. If you’re not in a position to donate, please consider sharing our page — that alone would be an enormous help.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can give. We are truly grateful.
With love and hope,
Kira & Leila
