I am writing to ask you to join me in helping my friend Leila who was diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma in January 2009.
At the time, she was hospitalized due to life-threatening complications and went through six rounds of chemotherapy as well as other treatments.
The chances of the chemotherapy working were good... The oncologist estimated a 60% chance of success. Unfortunately, Leila was in the 40% that relapsed.
A bit over two years later, Leila was re-diagnosed with Lymphoma, with a small lesion appearing in her liver. She decided to go ahead with different treatments, considering that chemotherapy had been so harsh, and had failed to heal her condition. Although these treatments were effective at halting further cancer growth for many years, Leila’s cancer eventually became more active and is now at an advanced stage.
Leila lives with her beautiful 6 year old daughter and family in Peterborough, Ontario. It has now been 10 years since her initial diagnosis. With the demands of motherhood in addition to the challenge of managing her cancer symptoms, Leila is now unable to work even on a casual basis. Her illness is going to require new treatments, hospital stays, child care, supplements, and medications, many of which are not covered by OHIP.
Leila’s health care related expenses are estimated at $44,000.00 over the next 12-18 months.
Funding is needed immediately and on an ongoing basis so Leila can access the care she needs.
All support, and words of encouragement on this page are deeply appreciated as it will help Leila on her healing path.
Just so people know, it says that this money is being raised on behalf of Sana Scott, she is Leila's mother and is handling the banking administration for Leila while she is in treatment, the funds are in fact going to Leila's treatments and related costs. Thank you.
