What was supposed to be a fun roadtrip as a new family of five turned into a nightmare. Part way into our journey, we learned Leica had salmon poisoning, a potentially deadly infection caused by bacteria in fish (technically worms in the fish). Our past week has been defined by long hours on the road with Lily and Helena, our newborn and two year old, numerous emergency clinics and an exhausting mix of good news with terrifying news.
After almost 2,000 miles and one grueling 16 hour drive, we are relieved to be back home in Portland where she is now getting treated at DoveLewis emergency pet hospital. Along the way, we met numerous compassionate veterinarians but despite their efforts, Leica has been slow to recover. She’s starting to trend in the right direction but continues to remain hospitalized.
Everyone who knows our Leica knows how much she loves all human and furry friends, the beach, the snow and all kinds of cheese. Most of all, she loves her family and we want her to come home to us soon. We are grateful for any support that feels right.

Update (Nov 30): Leica is home with us now for continuous care. We are grateful to everyone who has supported us in any way.
