Nicole Flynn is a small business owner, a community advocate, and a woman with a disability (Down Syndrome).
From 2018, Nicole served on the Council of Community Living Ontario (CLO), a non-profit advocating for people with intellectual disabilities. She worked tirelessly to help promote CLO’s mission and raise awareness for people with intellectual disabilities across Ontario.
During a meeting in the fall of 2024 with the Minister of Children, Community, and Social Services, Nicole handed the Minister her business card upon being asked for contact information. Two weeks later, she was accused of a conflict of interest for handing out her business card and abruptly terminated and banned from the Council. Her efforts, countless unpaid hours, and leadership were dismissed without explanation, leaving her feeling discarded and betrayed.
Nicole has filed a lawsuit demanding accountability and transparency from CLO. She says: “The voices of people with intellectual disabilities need to be heard and respected. We deserve the dignity of self-determination, support, and the opportunity to lead the movement for our own rights.”
People living with disabilities do not have many resources for legal battles against exploitation and mistreatment. Please contribute here to our online fundraiser for Nicole's legal fees and expenses.
You can subscribe to Nicole’s newsletter and receive updates by visiting her website, Nicole-Flynn-enterprises.square.site. Updates will also be sent to contributors to this fundraiser.
Thank you for joining the fight for justice for exploited disabled volunteers and workers.
