#JusticeForChloe and protect animals from abuse.
For those who haven’t heard Chloe’s story: she was a young Chesapeake Bay Retriever with her whole life ahead of her. We sent her to what we believed was a trusted board-and-train facility for basic obedience training—under the assumption that only positive reinforcement would be used.
Three weeks later, we received the call no dog owner ever expects: Chloe had died.
It wasn’t until the involvement of local authorities that Chloe’s body was finally returned to her veterinarian for a necropsy. The results were heartbreaking: her gastrointestinal tract was completely empty. The report also noted possible signs of anorexia—despite the facility’s attorney claiming Chloe had eaten 35 pounds of dog food during her stay. That clearly didn’t align with her condition. Chloe had lost a significant amount of weight—something that would not have happened had she truly consumed that amount of food.
Important Note: When a veterinarian uses the term anorexia, it simply means the animal is not eating. It is not to be confused with the human eating disorder anorexia nervosa.
The day before Chloe went to training, she was seen by her veterinarian and was a healthy puppy. Never one time were we notified that Chloe was experiencing medical distress or any other concerns.
After going public with Chloe’s story, we have learned that several other animals have experienced similar issues.
In efforts to help authorities to prosecute to protect other animals, we the victim, are now being attacked for merely trying to bring justice and prevent more harm.
This fundraiser has been started to help cover the legal costs required to hold the responsible parties accountable. Chloe deserved so much better—and no other dog should suffer the same fate. Every donation helps bring us one step closer to justice.
Thank you for supporting Chloe’s story.
Any excess funds donated will be donated to the Fight Animal Cruelty/Neglect fund at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society for their unwavering support to bring justice to animals who have been abused or neglected
