We are raising funds to support the legal efforts needed to protect our community from the proposed expansion of the Prima Deshecha Landfill. Environmental attorneys at Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger LLP have identified significant legal deficiencies in the County’s environmental review, including failures to fully analyze impacts to air quality, traffic, public safety, wildlife, and long-term environmental consequences. Ensuring that these issues are properly addressed requires experienced legal representation, which comes at a significant cost. All funds raised will go directly toward attorney fees to hold the County accountable and ensure a complete, lawful, and transparent review process.

This effort is being led by a group of concerned local residents and community members who have come together under the name Protecting Our Communities from the Prima Landfill. We are parents, homeowners, and neighbors directly impacted by this proposed expansion and committed to ensuring our community is informed and protected. To maintain full transparency, we are committed to providing updates on how funds are used, and all contributions will go directly toward legal fees associated with this effort. We welcome accountability and are happy to provide information to donors regarding the use of funds. Follow us on IG for more updates! @protectocfromprima

This fight is not over. The proposed Prima Deshecha landfill increase affects our air, our health, our children, our home values, our wildlife, and the future of our community.

Many people have expressed to us that they thought this tonnage increase is already a done deal. It is not.

The legal work has already begun. Environmental attorneys reviewed the County’s SEIR and submitted a detailed letter challenging serious weaknesses in the environmental analysis. That letter is part of building the legal record and making approval much more difficult if the County does not address the problems.

But we need to keep going.

The next steps may include public records requests, follow-up legal work, technical expert review, agency coordination, and preparation for possible litigation if the County moves forward without fixing the issues.

Residents deserve transparency.
Who benefits from this?
Where is the 60M per year going?
What alternatives were considered?
Who is protecting the families who live here?

We cannot keep allowing major local decisions to happen without real oversight from the people most affected.

This is where we do have power: locally, together, as a community.

Please donate, share, show up, and help us keep fighting. The first phase of legal work goal is set to $30,000 and included SEIR review, legal research, and a detailed comment letter. We would still owe additional funds and for the next phases in order to continue with legal representation.

This is not a done deal — unless we give up.
