About me

I am a queer white Ashkenazi femme. I am the founding rabbi of Hinenu, a warm and joyful congregation in Baltimore, MD. I graduated from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in the spring of 2018. I am the co-author of “For Times Such as These: a radical’s guide to the” with Rabbi Jessica Rosenberg from Wayne State University Press. I created and hosted Kaddish, a podcast about death and identity, and co-host God Crush with Pastor Lura Groen. I'm a mother, friend, daughter, sister, partner, and unhinged bumper sticker collector.

The Need for Left at Sinai

We are seeing our Torah weaponized for profound harm–our sacred texts, meant to be expanded and iterated on in every generation, are frozen in their most cruel interpretations by the Christian religious right, by the Israeli government and settler colonizers alike, and sometimes by members of our own Jewish community. The urgency to read Torah, to know it as ours, has never been more present.

And we are living in a Golden Age of liberatory Torah. Our teachers from the 60s and 70s and their students are still teaching, those who were the first to be women leaders, queer leaders, organizers in the civil and immigrant rights movements, to combine progressivism and religious ecstacy. Our teachers from the more recent years are still teaching, showing us the precious treasure of trans ancestry and wisdom in our text, the ethical rigor required to encounter this time of Great Turning (rabbi speak–Joanna Macy z”l speak for CHAOS and creation.)

Left at Sinai is for this unique moment, when liberatory Torah is being called for, and revealed.
