Loving Memory of Lee Maxie Williams

February 8, 1960 – June 4, 2025

Lee Maxie Williams peacefully entered eternal rest on June 4, 2025, at his residence in Akron, Ohio. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Born February 8, 1960, in Akron, Ohio, Lee was the beloved son of the late Obie and Anna L. Williams. He was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church, where he began a lifelong faith journey.

He was a proud graduate of Buchtel High School (1979) and Bowling Green State University (1983). Lee was a standout football player throughout his high school and college career. Lee's football career began with pee-wee; he played with the city stars, and then high school and BGSU until he was sadly injured over time. While at BGSU, Lee developed Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), which is a degenerative brain disease that progressively damages the brain over time. It's thought to be caused by repeated head injuries, including concussions and non-concussive blows, and is often found in athletes and military veterans. CTE is incurable and permanent, and worsens slowly, eventually leading to dementia.

In 2005, he began to develop signs of memory loss, experiencing paranoia and having schizophrenic episodes. Throughout the years, the issues started getting worse, and he also developed dementia due to this.

Despite this development, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Education at BGSU and carried that passion for learning into his everyday life.

His legacy of strength, compassion, and joy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to share in his life.
