Only residents on the floors where repairs are happening need to vacate TEMPORARILY, and I am one of them. This isn’t flooding from rain or storms—it’s the result of a sudden pipe burst, which sent water cascading through multiple floors all the way to the lobby. The repairs involve drilling through pipes and walls, which is dangerous due to asbestos exposure, making it unsafe to stay during the process. I’ve been told I might have until next Thursday before I need to leave, but nothing is certain, and the uncertainty is the hardest part. Some neighbors had to leave immediately, and I’m preparing for the possibility of only a couple days’ notice. I’ve spent countless late nights, sometimes until 4 or 5 in the morning, searching for hotels and trying to figure out where I can stay safely, especially with the holidays approaching and prices skyrocketing.

I still have to pay my rent and other expenses, but I never expected to need around $4,000 for hotel and food costs for three to four weeks of TEMPORARY HOUSING.
