Support Lebanon: Sisters of the Cross Convent

Donation protected
On August 4, 2020, an explosion with a magnitude surpassed only by the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, has left 300,000 citizens homeless, 5,000 injured, and at least 160 dead in Beirut, Lebanon.

A 15-minute drive from the blast is the home of my Great Aunt Jacqueline Antoun, who has been a nun at the Franciscan Sisters of the Cross (Rahbat/Deir El Saleeb) since she was 16 years old. She is now 92. I took this picture last January, and you can see that she is healthy and vibrant. She is one of my favorite people, and through her example has inspired my life of service.

The convent and the hospital they operate is her home. She has dedicated her life to caring for the most vulnerable people of Lebanon. It is a place where the forgotten are cared for with humanity and love. To this day, she continues to provide dignity and hope to people with disabilities, the elderly, and the poor. Having served almost 80 years, Aunt Jacqueline and her convent sisters are close to the most impacted and are trusted by the community.

Within hours of the Beirut blast, the world’s nations responded quickly, providing money and supplies. In fact, people from all walks of life began donating to INGO’s that provide emergency services. There is a continuous influx of help coming, and there is a way to get support to individuals who need it the most. Many of you have asked me where to give, and I am giving my highest recommendation to the Sisters of the Cross convent, where my Aunt Jacqueline is doing God’s work. They are operating hospitals and providing shelter and food for the displaced. The sisters are facing the greatest test of their lives, and they need our help.
