On August 3, Leasa Garrett, a friend of Samantha’s and a dedicated Home Health nurse, experienced a terrifying attack on the very first day of the job. After taking a patient to therapy, Leasa returned to the home and went inside to get the patient’s wheelchair. While doing that, the dog in the home jumped on Leasa and pinned her against the back door. In that horrifying moment, Leasa realized the dog was biting her neck and jaw, and she had to fight for her life. Using her hands and fingers, she tried to pry the dog’s teeth off her neck while the dog continued biting her arms. She was finally able to get the back door open and reach safety. Leasa was taken by EMS to Cherokee Nation, where a helicopter was waiting to transport her to Saint Francis in Tulsa. There, her wounds were cleaned and she underwent emergency treatment with stitches and staples. She spent the night in the hospital and continues to live with severe pain. She will also need plastic surgery and is unable to work during this recovery.
Right now, Leasa is facing not only the physical and emotional trauma of this attack, but also the financial strain of being out of work. All funds raised will go toward Leasa’s lost wages and bills while she heals. Samantha is asking for the community to come together for Leasa during this incredibly difficult time. Any support, no matter the amount, can help ease the burden and give Leasa the time and stability needed to recover. If you are unable to give, please help by sharing this fundraiser with others and keeping Leasa in your thoughts during the days ahead.
