Leandra was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in March 2024 and soon learned that the cancer had begun spreading to her lymph nodes, lungs, and bones. Since then, she has undergone ten cycles of chemotherapy, a mastectomy, hormonal therapy, and most recently immunotherapy. After chemotherapy, there was visible improvement—the tumors in her lungs had reduced in size. However, doctors recently determined that the hormonal therapy and immunotherapy she received after chemotherapy were not effective. A recent CT scan revealed disease progression and new metastases in her liver, leading her medical team to discontinue that course of treatment. Her doctors now recommend palliative therapy for metastatic breast cancer using an assortment of drugs including but not limited to pertuzumab, trastuzumab, and docetaxel, administered over two parts. The first part consists of eight sessions, and the second part will continue indefinitely if progress is shown.
