"El camino nos enseña la mejor forma de llegar"

This is a quote that has hung in my room surrounded by photos from my first trip to Spain since May 2012. In English, it roughly translates to "the journey teaches us the best way to arrive." 13 years ago, I would never have imagined that my "camino" would lead me back to Spain, but this time to call home for a season. Through the years, God has seamlessly weaved together friendships, amazing career opportunities, painful periods of waiting and trials, and passions and gifts sensed at a young age, creating a camino that would challenge, encourage, and prepare me for this new adventure and calling.

The Details!

I am thrilled to share that I am preparing to spend a year in Málaga, Spain serving immigrants and refugees alongside Diez42, a local non-profit, working to meet the unique needs of this population. I am so blessed to have the support of Engedi Church and join in their commitment to reach the nations with the hope of Jesus. My goal departure date will be this September!

Due to its coastal location, Málaga as long been a crossroads for immigrants from all parts of the world seeking safety from war, persecution, and poverty (it is also said to be one of the oldest cities in the world!). Using my training and experience as a clinical social worker, I will be helping provide mental health support and counseling as well as case management services for families who are navigating the challenges of starting over in a new country. I feel so privileged for this opportunity to build meaningful relationships with individuals from all nationalities and all walks of life.

Funds raised will help cover my travel to Spain, living expenses for the year, health insurance, and visa legal fees (moving abroad is not cheap!). While I am so fortunate that I will also be working as a mental health contractor part time virtually while in Spain, my income will only partially cover my expenses. -Housing! This is a BIG one as housing is very expensive and difficult to find

-Community: Getting established in a church, meeting new friends.

-Immigrants and Refugees arriving in Malaga: for God to meet their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs in ways only He can.

Esta es una cita que ha estado colgada en mi habitación rodeada de fotos de mi primer viaje a España desde mayo de 2012. Hace 13 años, nunca habría imaginado que mi "camino" me llevaría de vuelta a España, pero esta vez para ser mi nuevo hogar durante una temporada. A lo largo de los años, Dios ha entrelazado amistades, increíbles oportunidades profesionales, períodos dolorosos de espera y pruebas, y pasiones y dones que se sintieron desde una edad temprana, creando un camino que me desafiaría, alentaría y prepararía para esta nueva aventura.

Me hace ilusión de compartir que me estoy preparando para pasar un año en Málaga, España, sirviendo a los inmigrantes y refugiados junto a Diez42, una organización local sin fines de lucro, trabajando para cubrir las necesidades únicas de esta población. Me siento tan bendecida de contar con el apoyo de la Engedi Church en Holland, MI y unirme a su compromiso de alcanzar a las naciones con la esperanza de Jesús. Mi fecha de salida será en septiembre.

Debido a su ubicación costera, la llegada de inmigrantes a Málaga se remonta a los tiempos bíblicos. Hoy, la ciudad continua ser el cruce caminos para inmigrantes de todas partes del mundo que buscan seguridad de la guerra, la persecución y la pobreza (¡también se dice que es una de las ciudades más antiguas del mundo!). Utilizando mi formación y experiencia como trabajadora social clínica, ayudaré a proporcionar apoyo y consejería en salud mental, así como servicios de gestión de casos para familias que están navegando los desafíos de comenzar de nuevo en un nuevo país. Me siento tan privilegiada por esta oportunidad de formar relaciones significativas con individuos de diversos transfondos.

Aunque tengo la suerte de trabajar media jornada como autonoma de forma virtual mientras estar en España, mis ingresos solo cubrirán parcialmente mis gastos. ¡Gracias por colaborar conmigo este importante labor! -La paz de Dios durante cada paso de esta transición significativa.

-¡ Una vivienda! Esta es un gran reto ahora, ya que los pisos son muy caros y difíciles de encontrar.

-Comunidad: Establecerme en una iglesia, conocer nuevos amigos.

-Inmigrantes y refugiados que llegan a Málaga: para que Dios satisfaga sus necesidades físicas, emocionales, sociales y espirituales de maneras que solo Él puede.

18 Defiende la causa de la viuda y del huérfano, y muestra su amor por el inmigrante proveyéndolos de pan y vestido. 19 Mostrad vosotros también amor por el inmigrante, porque también vosotros fuisteis extranjeros en el país de Egipto.
