Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
My name is Leah D'Arcy and I am reaching out to you during one of the most challenging times in my life. I am a 42-year-old mother of three beautiful children. The children currently live with their father, Gary Rotondo, in Clark, NJ. I moved to Key West, Florida when my ex-husband and I divorced. Just two months ago, my ex-husband, Gary Rotondo from Clark, NJ, received a devastating diagnosis: stage 3 pancreatic cancer. We were hopeful, believing he had a year to a year and a half to live. However, today we learned that the cancer has progressed to stage 4, spreading to his liver and beyond. The prognosis is grim, with a mere 3% chance of surviving another year. We are told we have just months, if not weeks, left with him.
As a devoted mother, I have been working two jobs for the past two weeks to save up for a home where I can bring my children after their father's passing. Unfortunately, we are currently living in a tiny one-bedroom apartment, and it is heartbreaking to think of bringing my children into such a cramped space during such a difficult time. They are used to living in a four-bedroom house with their father, and the transition will be incredibly hard for them.
I am reaching out to our community to help us raise funds for a larger home where my children can feel safe and secure as they navigate the grief of losing their father. I have a 15-year-old son, Anthony, a 14-year-old daughter, Julia, and an 11-year-old son, Franky. We are also facing the added burden of funeral expenses and the cost of traveling back to Florida with all of their belongings once the time comes.
Julia had hoped to celebrate her Sweet 15, knowing her father may not be there for her Sweet 16. Now, we are trying to gather funds to make that special day happen, as it may be one of the last joyful memories we create as a family.
We are beyond heartbroken, and I am humbly asking for your help during this unimaginable time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and help alleviate some of the stress we are facing. Thank you for considering supporting us as we navigate this painful journey. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Leah D'Arcy
