Urgent Legal Help Needed: School Failed to Protect My Childr

Donation protected
My name is Layzia Wilson, and I am a single mother fighting to protect my two sons, Messiah Perkins and Makai Flythe, who are students in District of Columbia Public Schools (Thomas Elementary School) under Principal Jaime Trahan.

I am raising funds to secure legitimate legal representation so I can pursue legal action against the school system and responsible parties for failure to protect my children after repeated reports of bullying, threats, and violence.

What Happened

My children have experienced ongoing bullying that I repeatedly reported to the school and requested help with. Despite reaching out to both the school principal and the school board multiple times, I have not received meaningful intervention or protection for my children.

I was informed that the school board contacted the school regarding my concerns; however, the school has remained unresponsive and no effective action has been taken.

In my experience, the students involved have not been suspended or held meaningfully accountable, and as a result, the bullying and harassment have continued.

This has not only affected my children but other students as well.

Violent Incident and Escalation

The situation escalated into a violent and traumatic incident in which my son was physically assaulted by multiple students.

During the incident:

My child was jumped and physically attacked.

A therapist who was present to support my children attempted to intervene and was pushed out of the way by a student during the assault.

My children were also threatened with serious harm, including a threat involving a gun.

Impact on My Children

Since these events:

My children no longer feel safe attending school.

I have had to keep them home after repeated incidents to ensure their safety.

They have now missed over 30 days of school due to ongoing safety concerns.

They are falling behind academically.

We have begun family therapy due to trauma and emotional distress.

I am constantly trying to manage their safety and emotional recovery after each incident, hoping the situation will calm down—but it continues to escalate or repeat.

School Response Concerns

Despite multiple attempts to seek help:

The school system has not effectively responded.

The school board was contacted, but the school remains unresponsive.

No clear or consistent safety plan has been provided.

I have not seen meaningful accountability for the students involved.

I have concerns that ongoing bullying is not being properly addressed.

Based on my experience, this has contributed to a continued unsafe environment for my children and other students.

Why I Am Seeking Legal Help

I am a low-income, single mother. I cannot afford private school or legal representation, even though I believe legal action is necessary to protect my children and ensure accountability.

I am seeking funding to:

Obtain legal representation.

Hold the school system accountable for failing to protect my children.

Push for meaningful changes to prevent this from happening to other families.

Advocate for my children’s safety and educational rights.

My goal is not only justice for my children but also safer conditions for all students.

Closing

I am not asking for luxury—I am asking for safety.

As a mother, I am doing everything I can to protect my children, but I cannot do this alone.

Any support, donation, or sharing of this fundraiser means more than I can express.
