This Layne Garate, some Butte County Locals may know her better as Sheriff Honea’s granddaughter. At 11 months old will be having her first heart surgery. Here is her story;

Our sweet Layne was born 6 weeks premature, and from the very beginning, we knew there may be challenges as she continues to grow. But it wasn't until she was about 4 months old that we discovered the hole in her heart wasn’t getting any smaller. By 7 months, her cardiologist informed us that the hole was affecting her heart’s size and putting strain on her lungs.

After many appointments, tests, and conversations, they determined that Layne will need open heart surgery. We learned in just 7 short weeks they will preform the surgery to repair the hole and give her heart and lungs the chance to recover. We are so grateful for the incredible doctors and specialists who have been by our side every step of the way, offering their guidance.

While the surgery itself is a big step forward, we know the road to full recovery will take time. We’re praying that they don’t find any other deformities when they do the surgery and that it will be a normal operation and recovery. Even if all goes to plan, Layne will need several months to heal before she can fully interact with others again. But if we’ve learned anything through this journey, it’s how resilient our little girl is—and how gracious God is.

The money will be used to help cover medical costs, and for Layne’s Mommy and Daddy to be able to take the time away from their daily jobs to stay near Layne while she stays in the N.I.C.U for however long she needs to be recovered and strong!
