Layla is more than just a dog — she is family. Anyone who knows me knows how deeply I love my girl and how much she means to me.
Layla has been my sweet girl for seven years, and over the past few weeks our lives have been turned completely upside down.
On February 18th, Layla went to the vet for what we were told were eye ulcers. We followed every instruction, gave all medications, and returned for her follow-up visits hoping she would heal. Instead, things quickly became more serious.
Within days, Layla developed severe inflammation (uveitis) that rapidly progressed into glaucoma, causing dangerous pressure in her eyes. Despite constant vet visits, medications, and round-the-clock care, Layla suddenly lost her vision.
We were referred to a veterinary ophthalmologist for specialized care. At today’s checkup we received heartbreaking news. While the medications have helped lower the pressure and inflammation, Layla will not regain her vision, and the doctors have now discovered cataracts that developed from the sudden inflammation.
The biggest concern now is her comfort and quality of life.
The ophthalmologist explained that the only way to guarantee Layla will live pain-free long-term is to remove her eyes. Otherwise, she would require lifelong medications, constant monitoring, and frequent vet visits, and even then there’s no guarantee the pressure wouldn’t return and cause her severe pain. Some of the medications she would need long-term could also lead to kidney problems in the future.
The recommended surgery is $1,800 per eye, and because both eyes are affected the total cost will likely be around $3,600 or more, not including medications, follow-ups, or testing.
This decision has been incredibly difficult, but our goal is simple: we want Layla to live a happy, comfortable life without pain. Dogs adapt amazingly well to blindness, but they should never have to live with constant eye pain.
Layla is still the same loving girl — she still cuddles in her favorite blanket, wags her tail when she hears our voices, and stays close to us for comfort. We just want to give her the chance to live the rest of her life feeling safe and pain-free.
If you feel led to help, any donation or even sharing this fundraiser means the world to us. Your kindness will go directly toward Layla’s surgery and medical care.
Thank you for loving our girl and keeping her in your prayers. ❤️
