Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,

We are raising money for our dearest friend Layke as they recover from two major operations aimed to treat a serious health condition. Layke is a 26-year-old Black designer, poet, and literary editor from Toronto whose care, presence and creativity are invaluable to so many.

Layke is currently healing well from part 1 of 2 surgeries which took place on January 26, 2026. A second, more intensive surgery is scheduled for early March. Their recovery is expected to keep them away from work for approximately 2.5-3 months. Because of the eligibility requirements for Employment Insurance/Sickness Benefits, they do not qualify for support, which leaves them facing a significant loss of income as they heal.

With this in mind, we're calling in the community that Layke is so lovingly a part of to support and show up for someone who means so much to countless people around them.

All funds will be allocated to Layke’s essential living and recovery-related expenses during their recovery. We are asking for a soft goal of $7,500 and a hard goal of $10,000. The funds will be used to cover 3 months of rent and utilities, medications, groceries, supplements, recovery supplies, and other post-operative care and living expenses while they heal.
