Support Laury's Cancer Journey

Dear friends, family, and compassionate hearts,

To know Laury is to love her. She's one of those people who can light up any room she enters, make anyone feel welcome, and instantly make you want to spend more time with her. I vividly remember the night we decided to move in together. We knew each other through a mutual friend and were both ready to move out of our parents homes & make the next step in becoming adults - so we went for it. The year we lived together was one of the best in my life. Throughout this time, Laury instantly became an integral part of my life, as well as Harrison's- and always will be. We spent countless movie nights, game nights, pancake breakfasts and wine nights together creating a strong bond. She is the most caring, empathetic, funny, warm person we know. She began to feel unwell gradually, and the night she got sent to the ER for an urgent CT scan after having an abnormal ultrasound - we never in a million years thought the diagnosis of cancer would be the result. Needless to say, the life she once knew as a young woman making her way in the world has been totally turned upside down.

Laury has been diagnosed with Stage 4b Low Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer - which is a rare type of ovarian cancer that encompasses about 7-10% of all Ovarian Cancers. She underwent a full hysterectomy and oophorectomy on September 18, 2023, and as her tumours are feeding off of her hormones, there was no option to undergo IVF treatment to preserve fertility. She was hospitalized for 5 days before being discharged home and starting the grueling post-op recovery. During her surgery they removed all of her reproductive organs and the majority of her large bowel. The surgeons found more cancer than was initially seen in the pre-op imaging, specifically in her spleen, liver and diaphragm. On November 3, 2023, Laury began her first of three rounds of Chemotherapy. Thankfully, initial scans show that chemotherapy has been effective so far. Although, there is still a long road ahead. Laury will undergo another 3 rounds before her next surgery.

Laury is the strongest person we know, and has been what we have always known her to be throughout her treatments - a champ. This however, does not take away from the unimaginable amount of pain, suffering, grieving and sadness this journey has brought into her life as a 25 year old now battling cancer. She has a long way to go, and we are graciously asking for your help.

We are launching this campaign to rally around Laury to help alleviate financial burden and provide support to navigate the complexities of cancer treatment. From miscellaneous medical expenses not covered by AHS, to potential unforeseen costs, and basic living expenses that are becoming difficult to afford with a reduced wage while unable to work - every donation will ease the burden on Laury and allow her to focus on the fight ahead. If you are unable to donate, please share with your friends/family, and send words of love and encouragement. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you - Ava and Harrison
