Lauri and I have been friends since elementary school, over 45 years ago and from the very beginning, we became fast best friends. Our friendship has carried us through every season of life, from childhood adventures to cherished Girl’s Trips as adults. Lauri and Pete, high school sweethearts, have been married for over 30 years and are the proud parents of two amazing kids, Nick and Jessie. Lauri’s love for children shines through in her career as a dedicated teacher, where she is surrounded by a supportive school family as well.

In 2019, Lauri was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After six rounds of chemotherapy, she was declared cancer free, only to face the disease three more times. She is now participating in her second clinical trial, which has brought some hope with manageable side effects, but the journey has been physically and emotionally exhausting. Throughout it all, Lauri has continued to work when she was physically able, showing incredible strength and resilience. With the introduction of clinical trials, and living with cancer, she needed to step away from work again. In early 2025 Pete unexpectedly lost his job and has been feverishly searching for employment. Lauri’s long-term disability only just began after a long, difficult period with no pay. The physical and financial strain on their family has been immense.

Many friends and loved ones have asked, “What can I do? How can I help?” This. This is how. Lauri and Pete need us now and we need to come through for them. Your support will help cover mounting medical bills, travel expenses for treatment, and allow for moments of comfort and pampering for Lauri when she needs it most.
