Support Laurie’s Fight Against Oral Cancer

Hello, my name is Karen Carter. I have been friends with Laurie for over 40 years.

I am deeply saddened to share that Laurie was recently diagnosed with stage four oral cancer. She is currently at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, where she recently underwent an intensive 11-hour surgery on March 31st to remove the tumor and reconstruct her jaw.

To know Laurie is to love her. She has a beautiful soul with a warm and welcoming personality with everyone she meets. All donations will go directly into Laurie’s bank account. Her recovery journey is just beginning; she will need 7 weeks of radiation and possibly chemotherapy, all being performed in Boston.

Upon returning home to Plattsburgh, NY, Laurie will have a feeding tube and a tracheostomy. She will need home health care and will need to make regular trips back to Dana-Farber in Boston for follow-up appointments, speech therapy, and additional treatments.

Laurie is the sole provider for herself, and at this time it is unknown if and when she will be able to return to work.
