Support Lauren Lacorcia’s Recovery Journey
On January 13th, Lauren began feeling unwell. On Friday the 17th she was much sicker and by Monday, January 20th, her condition had deteriorated so severely that she was in multiple organ failure and sepsis, with her oxygen saturation dropping to just 75%. She was placed on a ventilator, where she remained for 35 long days requiring a tracheostomy tube as part of her treatment. It was an incredibly difficult and uncertain time for her whole family.
After losing 11 kg (24 lbs) of mostly muscle, Lauren faces an uphill battle. Thanks to her incredible resilience, Lauren has been slowly weaned from the ventilator, and has since moved out of critical care. The ICU staff may not have known Lauren, but those of us who do were never surprised by her fight and determination. Her hard work paid off, and a few weeks ago, she was finally able to see her beloved son, Isaac, again. I delayed sending this out initially because we weren’t sure if she’d be able to come off the ventilator, but I’m thrilled to share that she has made steady progress and is expected to go home this Friday.
The pictures show Lauren trying her first bite of food (pudding) in weeks and before and after the tube was removed. While this is an incredible step forward, Lauren still has months of recovery ahead, including ongoing respiratory and physical therapy.
Please consider donating to support Lauren and her family as they navigate the challenging months ahead. Every contribution, big or small, will help ease the financial burden and allow Lauren to focus on her recovery.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support! ❤️
