My name is Megan, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my sister, Lauren Casey, and her family. For more than 10 years, Lauren has been bravely battling kidney disease caused by lupus. Now, she is entering the next—and most challenging—chapter of her journey as she prepares and waits for a life-saving kidney transplant. I’d like to share her story.
When Lauren was in high school, her life changed in an instant. At just 16 years old, when she should have been focused on cheerleading, dance, friends, and schoolwork, she began experiencing terrifying symptoms—intense joint pain, overwhelming fatigue, severe headaches, and even episodes of memory loss. Her symptoms worsened so quickly that she was rushed to Boston Children’s Hospital, where she received the diagnosis no teenager should ever have to hear: Lupus.
Lupus is a lifelong autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to attack the body’s own tissues, leading to inflammation, pain, and long-term organ damage. From that day forward, Lauren’s world became filled with specialist appointments, medications, and uncertainty. But through every setback, she has shown incredible strength and resilience. She fought tirelessly to manage her symptoms and maintain as much normalcy as possible.
Despite the challenges lupus brought into her life, Lauren refused to let it define her. She went on to attend college, pursue her passions, and build a beautiful life. She even started her own photography business—capturing memories for families while quietly fighting a battle most never knew she was facing.
Lauren is now happily married to her incredibly supportive husband, Eddie, and together they have built a loving family. They are the proud parents of two beautiful children: Callie, their bright and spirited 7-year-old daughter, and Connor, their sweet 3-month-old baby boy who has already filled their home with joy.
For Lauren, her lupus causes her immune system to attack her kidneys. Despite all her efforts, Lauren’s kidneys can no longer keep up. After a decade of courage, endurance, and countless treatments, she now faces the difficult reality of needing a kidney transplant to continue living the life she deserves.
This journey has taken a tremendous emotional and financial toll on Lauren, her husband, and their children. As she prepares for transplant surgery and the long recovery that follows, the support of our community means more than ever.
If you are able, please consider donating to help alleviate the financial burden of medical expenses, time away from work, and the many costs associated with transplant care. No contribution is too small—every act of kindness brings Lauren one step closer to healing and hope.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting Lauren during the hardest battle of her life. Your generosity truly makes a difference.
