Hi, my name is Shannon, and I am starting this fundraiser for my mom, Laurel. First, let me tell you a bit about this amazing woman. She raised four crazy kids of her own and had a part in influencing the lives of dozens of other kids we brought home with us or my dad brought home from church. See, my dad was a Lutheran Reverend and youth leader for many years, so by proxy, my mom was involved as well. I grew up with many kids calling her "Mom Hazz" or "Mom H." She has the biggest heart and was always the first to offer to help in a time of need. She has been an example of kindness and generosity, and I can only hope to live up to that example.
But now that Mom has fully retired and is living on a fixed income, unexpected health issues have taken a toll. And when Mom does something, it's never halfway! So she has recently broken a tooth. And boy, do I mean broke! Not only is the tooth broken, but so are BOTH of the roots! This tooth is moving about 2mm when it wiggles. This is obviously painful and problematic as we all know any oral infections cause many other health problems! To fix this problem is a 2-part process and quite expensive. Hence the GoFundMe.
Part 1 consists of needing to surgically remove the broken tooth and all the bits and pieces. Then they use a special foam to fill in the hollow above the bone and suture it all closed. This is necessary to prevent the gums from receding around the surrounding teeth. This part is already scheduled and planned as it is necessary to get done as soon as possible.
Part 2 is the kicker. They cannot add this to her partial. To keep her other teeth from starting to shift, she will need a 3-tooth bridge. This requires removing the crowns of the teeth on either side and going through a process to lengthen them to be able to anchor the bridge.
All told, this 2-part process will cost about $13,000. With her fixed income, there is no way she can afford a bill of this size. This woman has done so much for so many that I am hoping we can come together to help this amazing woman keep her beautiful smile.
