Our Mother, Laura Rogers, has been through an unimaginably difficult medical journey over the past few months. What started as what was supposed to be a joyful trip to New York for a wedding quickly turned into a life-threatening situation.

While traveling, Laura became very sick and was diagnosed with endocarditis, a serious heart infection. She required IV antibiotics and was too ill to drive home, forcing her and her husband to purchase last-minute flights home. Just when we thought she was on the road to recovery, things took a turn for the worse.

Two weeks later, Laura was rushed to the ER with dangerously low blood pressure and weakness. Doctors discovered fluid around her heart, a hole in the wall of her heart, and worsening valve function leading to heart failure. She was given two impossible options: palliative care or an extremely high-risk open-heart surgery with only about a 10% chance of survival. Against all odds, and through many prayers, Laura miraculously survived the surgery.

But her challenges didn’t end there. A week later, she developed a life-threatening blood clot around the repaired valve. Once again, doctors feared the worst. By another miracle, an off-label medication worked to dissolve the clot. After spending 6 long weeks in the ICU, Laura is finally on the path to recovery.

As you can imagine, the medical bills from this unexpected journey are overwhelming. We are raising funds to help Laura and her family with these expenses as she continues to heal.
