December 20, 2018 will forever be etched into our minds, as it was the day that we were told Laura had cancer.  A month before, Laura informed us that she had a sharp pain in her right abdomen.  She drove herself to the doctor and was told to head up to the Sturgeon Community Hospital as he wasn't sure what was wrong.  This is where it all started.  From the end of November and to December 18, Laura endured many medical assessment and lots of emotional ups and downs.  When the medical community became stumped they decided to remove the mass from Laura's right abdomen.  When removed, the mass weighs 1.5 pounds and was approximately 13 cm by 9 cm and 6 cm thick (think softball!).  It was two days later, December 20, 2018 that we were told the mass was malignant (cancer).  This diagnosis has affected all of those who love Laura but the person it affects the most is Laura herself.  Since January Laura has undergone Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments.  In fact, she still has 3 rounds of Chemo left.   During these 11 months, she has finished her grade 12 courses (with honors), graduated grade 12, turned 18 and tried to keep hanging out with her boyfriend, family and friends.  

This is the reason we are reaching out to all of you.  Laura has not been able to work, she has not been able to live life the way an 18 year old should and most importantly she has been brave and faced this situation with her head high and with her positive spirit and attitude.  Laura will hopefully be finished by November (original end date was third week in July).  And it is then that she needs your help.  Laura would like to get strong again (join the gym and have a personal trainer), purchase clothes that make her feel good and healthy and take a trip to relax.
