Support Laura McNew-Isaacs' ALS Care Needs
Donation protected
I was diagnosed with ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease, on January 4th, 2023 at the age of 33. ALS is a fatal neurological disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing muscle weakness leading to paralysis over time.
As my disease has progressed, I have lost independent mobility and require assistance to do even simple tasks, from getting in and out of bed to lifting a mug.
Though my family has stepped up exponentially, it is time that we hire outside help from a caregiver. This will be very costly, as I need someone with me for most of the day and insurance doesn't cover it. My friend says we're like high maintenance houseplants, which cracks me up. I like to say I'm sort of like Benjamin Button- an adult sized toddler who can't run away. Anything you would use your arms or hands for is out of my reach (ha!) and I need someone else to do for me .
With your help, it is my hope to be able to fund my greatest need at this time- a caregiver and a much needed break for my family. Thank you for your consideration, and your continued love and support.
