Hello, I'm Paula, and I work with Laura Deornellas. As many of you know, Laura is the AG/CTE Recruiter at Lake Land College, and she is fantastic at what she does! Unfortunately, this summer, Laura started having trouble swallowing. At first, she didn't think much of it, but it kept getting worse to the point that she couldn't keep anything down and had lost a significant amount of weight, which she didn't have to spare. This past Saturday, Laura was so dehydrated that she went to the ER, where she was given fluids, and a CAT scan was conducted.

On Monday, Laura met with a specialist who ordered an upper GI, and yesterday, Laura was told that she has Esophageal Cancer. She will see an Oncologist next week and, if the cancer has not spread, she will have surgery to take out the part of her esophagus that has the tumor.

As I'm sure you can imagine, Laura is very scared and unsure of how this will affect her physically as well as financially, as she will have medical costs and time off from work for surgery, appointments, and recuperation.
