Support LaToya Hartwell-Schiller's GBS Recovery

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Vernon Hartwell, and I am raising funds to assist my niece, LaToya Hartwell-Schiller, with her unforeseen medical expenses that have arisen with her recent diagnosis of GBS (Guillain-Barre Syndrome). She has been dealing with the progression of this physically debilitating and mentally exhaustive disease for a few months now, and her condition has deteriorated to the point where she has now been placed in an ICU to facilitate her breathing on a respirator.

This ailment has been challenging to say the least, and LaToya and her husband, James, have been fighting the good fight, trying to address her healthcare needs as she slowly recovers from this horrific malady.

She is now out of the ICU and is breathing on her own. She is still in the hospital but hopes to be released to go home in a couple of weeks/months. GBS is a unique disease that attacks the immune system and renders the patient unable to do basic things such as move their limbs, feed themselves, attend to personal matters (like washing, using the restroom, personal hygiene, etc.), which means that she will need 24/7 support to address those issues once she is released to go home.

Her medical needs are being funded by her insurance company, but unfortunately, she is not applicable for Medi-Cal, which is the reason for this fundraising endeavor. She will be required to pay out-of-pocket for the expense of in-home care that she will need as she recovers back to her old self.

The doctor's prognosis is that she could be incapacitated for a span of 6 months to a year. This is the purpose and point of this funding page. Can you please donate anything that you can spare to aid LaToya as she struggles to regain her life and independence? Ask anyone who knows her, and they will tell you that she is one of the most gentle and kind-spirited people you could ever know. She is dedicated to her husband and her church and sorely misses the ability to be a good wife and participate and support her church.

As her uncle, I have watched this young woman grow from infancy to become a beautiful and rare young woman and pray that this GBS madness ends soon because LaToya has so much to offer the world. So I am now stepping out on faith, asking God to place a desire in your heart and spirit to make a generous donation to this effort to assist my niece so that she can return to a life of normalcy and give ALL the Glory to God.
