My name is Laszlo, and I'm a single dad raising my daughter. Being a single parent has its hardships enough as it is, but in November of 2024, we moved, and a lot of my things needed to be stored until we got situated. Everything from my tools, equipment, parts left over from my shop, parts to fix up our old truck for my daughter for when she gets her license, my motorcycle, furniture for the house including our extra bed, dining room table/chairs, to personal items from our past, my military days, items I purchased in preparation to start up a new venture, and even our freezer full of food... just about everything except the things we had here at the house.
Fast forward to mid-2025, and things got tight, juggling bills and trying to take care of everything as best I could until things took off for us. I got a little behind on the storage fees but got the funds I needed to get all caught up....went in to pay and get all caught up. Herein lies the problem: the storage facility failed to notify me of their intentions and proceeded to get rid of everything except the motorcycle and freezer full of food. I tried to get them to give me my property back, but they refused, claiming "we already signed a contract with an auction company." The problem is, they never notified me of any of this, and the auction company sold off about $100k worth of my stuff and left me with only two items, the motorcycle and freezer, which they held trying to use those as leverage to keep me from taking them to court. They wouldn't even let me get the food out to help feed me and my daughter. It took a few weeks, but I finally got an attorney and was able to get a hearing for a restraining order to force the storage facility and auction company to cease and desist. I won that one by a mile on 11/10/25 as their attorney seems to be in way over her head. The auction company returned what was left over, but there is a ton missing that was either thrown away or kept by the storage and/or auction company.
This entire ordeal has been completely overwhelming to both of us and brings me to the fight in court to hold both companies that clearly colluded together to leave us with nothing much of our lives left. I was able to take care of the initial retainer for the TRO, and now comes the biggest cost: the trial. I need help to see this through. My attorney and I boh feel extremely confident in my case and anticipate a win in court, but it is going to cost a lot. I'm not asking for any handouts, but I do need a hand up to see this through. This might take a bit of time to work through, but once it's all done and we win our fight, I will pay back everyone (with some interest) that helped me succeed in this fight. I won't be able to make it happen all on my own, so I'm here to ask for help. I know it’s a big ask, but this entire situation will destroy us if we can't hold them accountable. The AG with the NCDOJ and Consumer Protection is involved as well as the BBB.
Everything they took from us is all my daughter and I had. The tools and parts were all I had to help support and take care of my daughter and myself in this economy we’re in right now. Any help will be appreciated and put to immediate use to make this happen.
Uodate: we won our TRO which the auction company and storage facility attempted to violate twice but we caught them and put a stop to it. They were ordered to return everything to be held in a third party facility which they have failed to do so far. They're starting to point fingers at each other and we feel very confident we will be on the winning side.
A huge thanks goes out to all that have helped us this far. We've got a ways to go before it's all over though. Help us to keep up the fight and push these corporations back into their corners.
