Alaska Fisherman Faces Health Crisis
Donation protected
I'm asking for help and this is very hard for me because of my pride. I have always been very healthy. I'm 66 years old and I've worked since I was 15 years old, mainly as an Alaska fisherman. I was heading up for my usual 3-month summer job, which pays roughly $60k, and a week before I left for Alaska, I was taken to Banner Goldfield Hospital in Mesa, AZ, where I was diagnosed with acute kidney failure, sepsis, and multifocal pneumonia. I recovered rather quickly and was called to my regular doctor's office to be told I had severe coronary artery blockage and would need a stent procedure. Well, that was 3 days ago, and the cardiologist stated my arteries are too small for a stent and I require open-heart surgery. Thank God I have good medical insurance. But this will completely ruin my chance to do my summer Alaska job until next year, and the credit cards are starting to rack up. I cannot work, and my wife Mindy is disabled from spinal cord damage. I just need to keep my credit cards paid until I can get back to work. Any extra will be paid forward and donated to charities. I'm just so worried I'll fall too far behind and never catch up. Any help or prayers would be greatly appreciated and not taken for granted. With any luck, I'll get my heart surgery in July and heal up in time for September's salmon charter for the Alaska State Dept of Fisheries. Then at least I'll get 37 sea days, and that will help get me through to next season if that happens.
