Support Larry Hurm's Lung Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Three years ago, my father, Larry Hurm, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, which is an incurable and progressive lung disease that causes irreversible scarring and thickening of the lungs. As the disease advances, the lungs lose their elastic ability, making it increasingly difficult to breathe. Over time, this leads to dangerously low oxygen levels which is fatal.
Despite this devastating diagnosis, Larry did everything in his power to fight back. He committed himself fully to pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen therapy, and cutting-edge medications in hopes of slowing the disease's progression. While these treatments offered some relief, his condition continued to decline. Eventually, it was determined that a lung transplant would be his only hope for survival.
Thanks to Larry’s determination and diligence in managing his health, he was evaluated and deemed a good candidate for transplant. He was officially listed for a lung transplant on February 27, 2025.
On April 9, 2025, Larry received the incredible gift of a new pair of lungs, and with them, the chance to celebrate his 70th birthday and many more milestones to come. He is deeply committed to honoring this gift by continuing to take the best possible care of himself.
His post-transplant journey is just beginning and will include many appointments with specialists, routine procedures, and a strict regimen of anti-rejection medications to ensure his body accepts the new lungs. Thankfully, Larry has a strong and loving family support system by his side helping to manage appointments, transportation, medications, and daily care during this critical recovery period. While we are grateful to be able to support him, the emotional, physical, and financial toll on his loved ones is significant. The costs of transplant surgery, follow-up care, lifelong medications, and ongoing monitoring are substantial and far exceed what Medicare covers.
My family and I are asking for your support to help lighten the financial burden so Larry can focus on healing and staying healthy. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference.
If you haven’t already, please consider becoming a registered organ donor. My father is here today because someone made the selfless decision to give the gift of life as an organ donor.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
