If you’ve met Larry Fry you would easily be able to say he’s a good man. He’s always willing to help and goes above and beyond for anyone he knows.
For Larry something started feeling wrong at the end of January, he was feeling worn down, he chalked it up to being old and pushed through.
By April, he wasn’t able to work whole days without extreme fatigue. May came he was only able to work 2-3 hours in a day.
Doctors tried various things and finally in June, a cat-scan revealed a large cancerous tumor on his kidney.
The tumor grew by taking his blood which left him without energy. Doctors haven’t been able to alleviate his symptoms and he continues to be completely drained of energy. He is not able to be awake more than a few hours without sleeping. He has been unable to work since May.
He is finally scheduled for surgery July 15 to remove the kidney which will hopefully help him recover. Unfortunately, doctors are not sure how the other kidney will function alone, as it is a dwarf kidney. Luckily, the cancer hasn’t spread and the goal is to get the kidney out and figure out next steps after.
Larry has owned and operated a heating and cooling service in the Pierre area since 1984. Due to the cancer he has been unable to work for months and is facing an unknown recovery. Quite frankly, I think Larry would downplay his situation, and he would not ask for help at all. He would say he will manage or figure it out; but that’s not how our community works. We help each other when we need help, and I think he needs us. I know I couldn’t go 3 months without wages not to mention the possibility of having to figure out how to live if recovery throws a curveball.
To those who can donate - your generosity, support, and kindness are so appreciated. We will continue to update you as Larry fights this battle with courage and strength.
